Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
When you lose a hand, even if it’s a really big one, keep in mind that that hand is just one bad hand and it doesn’t define your entire poker career…and no matter how much you lose and you’re looking down, focus on what you’re looking at. Your two feet. You can always walk away. There’s nothing in this world you can’t walk away from.
- the Foxwoods dealer I met on the train who steals his tips from the casino
The guy I was sitting next to on the train gave me that chip as well as some words. This 34 year old man was on his way to see his 40 year old Tibetan girlfriend so that he could plan his half-Laotian daughter’s 14th birthday tomorrow.
He was so awkward, but said the most beautiful things. He voluntarily gave me some poker tips. I don’t know if he was being literal or philosophical, but either way it was profound. He told me the most interesting stories of the people in his life, and how he fit himself into each picture.
It was like I met Sal Paradise.
